THIS IS AN ADAPTER PLATE TO ALLOW YOU TO INSTALL A 1941-54 VINTAGE CHEVY 2167/235/261 WATER PUMP ONTO A 1955-62 VINTAGE 235/261 ENGINE BLOCK.
WHEN INSTALLING THE 1955-62 ENGINES INTO EARLIER VEHICLES, THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE LENGTH
OF THE 1955-62 WATER PUMP AS WELL AS THE HEIGHT LOCATION OF THE FAN IN RELATION TO THE RADIATOR.
ONE WAY OF DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE IS TO ADAPT THE EARLIER WATER PUMP. THIS PLATE ALLOWS YOU TO REUSE
THE ORIGINAL WATER PUMP, BALANCER, RADIATOR HOSES, ETC… OF YOUR PRE-1955 VEHICLE.
IF YOU WANT TO USE A 5/8″ FAN BELT, THEN USE ANY 1941-53 PUMP WITH THE 5/8″ PULLEY.
IF YOU WANT TO USE A 3/8″ WIDE FAN BELT, THEN USE A 1953-54 WATER PUMP WITH THE 3/8″ PULLEY.
REQUIRES DRILLING AND TAPPING 2 HOLES IN THE ENGINE BLOCK TO INSTALL!
BALANCERS:
FOR 5/8″ YOU WILL NEED TO USE A 1941-53 ONE WITH THE 5/8 BELT GROOVE.
FOR 3/8″, IDEALLY YOU WOULD WANT A 1953-54 (OR 1955 1ST SERIES TRUCK) ONE AS THE DIAMETER IS A
LITTLE SMALLER THAN THE 1955-62 ONES, BUT HONESTLY, IN MY OPINION, THE LATER ONES DON’T INCREASE
THE RPMS OF THE WATER PUMP ENOUGH TO CREATE A PROBLEM WITH CAVITATION. THIS IS ESPECIALLY
TRUE IF YOU HAVE UPDATED YOUR DRIVELINE WITH LOWER GEARING TO REDUCE THE ENGINE RPMS.
ALSO KEEP IN MIND THAT THE 1955-62 TRUCK BALANCERS ARE DESIGNED FOR A 1/2″ BELT, SO IF YOU RUN
A 3/8″ BELT ON THEM, THE DIAMTER BECOMES REALL CLOSE TO THE SAME AS THE 1953-54 BALANCERS.
